Frequently asked questions
What is this project?
"Zambia's Will to Live" tells the powerful story of PEPFAR's impact on Zambia's fight against HIV. This feature film documentary delves into the past, present, and future of the global effort to end the epidemic.
What is PEPFAR?
PEPFAR, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, is a landmark U.S. government initiative launched in 2003 to combat the global HIV/AIDS epidemic. As the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease, PEPFAR provides life-saving antiretroviral treatment, prevention programs, and healthcare system strengthening, resulting in millions of lives saved and new infections prevented, while also working towards the goal of achieving HIV epidemic control globally.
What is the project mission?
Our mission is to ensure the continuation of PEPFAR's life-saving HIV aid response by raising awareness and building widespread support, ultimately contributing to the eradication of HIV.
Why is PEPFAR Aid at risk?
PEPFAR's aid is at risk due to a confluence of factors, including increasing political polarization within the U.S., which has led to legislative gridlock and funding uncertainties. This has resulted in difficulties securing long-term reauthorization, with recent reauthorizations being short-term, creating instability. Additionally, shifts in global health priorities and economic pressures contribute to a complex environment, making PEPFAR's continued, stable funding less certain.
